Pet Ownership Guidelines

To ensure a clean, safe, and respectful community for everyone, please follow the rules below when out with your pet.

1. Cleanliness First

Owners must immediately pick up their pet’s waste, whether on sidewalks, in parks, green spaces, or on private property.

➡️ Please carry bags with you and dispose of waste properly and responsibly.

2. Control and Safety

Dogs must be kept on a leash in all public areas (maximum length: 1.85 m / 6 ft). Dogs weighing more than 20 kg (44 lb) must also wear a harness or head halter.

➡️ Your pet must remain under your supervision at all times to prevent incidents or escapes.

3. Mandatory Identification

All dogs and cats must be registered with the municipality or animal services and must wear their identification tag at all times.

💲 Cost: $20 per year, paid to the Outaouais SPCA.

4. Respect for Neighbours

Please limit excessive barking and prevent your pet from wandering onto neighbouring properties. Sterilization is strongly encouraged to help reduce overpopulation, especially among stray cats.

5. In Case of Non‑Compliance

Failure to follow these rules may result in fines, infractions, or removal from public spaces and parks. These measures help maintain a harmonious community, protect public cleanliness, and ensure the safety of both residents and animals.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Municipality of the Village of Fort‑Coulonge
