We recently received feedback from the compost processing facility indicating that contaminants are still being found in some brown bins. However, we are pleased to see a significant improvement in our residents’ sorting habits, and we would like to sincerely thank you for your efforts.
We are very encouraged by the community’s commitment and by the efforts made by everyone to improve the quality of the compostable materials being collected.
Thanks to your participation, approximately 15% of organic waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill is now being diverted through the compost collection program. This is an encouraging result that demonstrates the effectiveness of our collective efforts so far. Our goal for the month of September is to reach 20%, and then continue working toward an overall diversion rate of 30%. Your ongoing participation and cooperation will be essential in helping us achieve these targets.
We encourage you to continue these good practices and to remain vigilant in order to further reduce the presence of non-compliant materials in brown bins.
Over the coming weeks, you may notice municipal employees placing tags on certain brown bins. This initiative is intended to educate residents and verify that the materials placed in the bins comply with composting guidelines.
Together, we can continue to improve the quality of the compost produced, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, and contribute to a healthier environment. Thank you for your valued cooperation!
If you have any questions regarding composting, accepted materials, or the organic waste collection program, we invite you to contact the municipal office at 819-683-2259 or by email at administration@fortcoulonge.qc.ca. We will be happy to assist you and answer any questions you may have.
We also encourage you to share this post on Facebook to help raise awareness and promote proper composting practices throughout our community.
Thank you for your commitment and for helping make our community cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.
